Coach & Horses: What Ertel Thought
So Friday night, in its uneventful glory we walked down Sunset and got some extremely mediocre food from Toi. In walking both there and back we commented non chalantly on Coach & Horses which is just on the way. It seemed to have a refreshing older punk vibe and with a precarious alcove next to it where the zombies could hang out and chat with the benefit of a overhead light.
Saturday night it got very late and with no plans we ventured over to the location that had been such a mystery to us and peered inside. This is what developed in my mind regarding it.
I actually enjoyed the fact that the place was bigger then you’d think it would be. It was narrow but rather long and with good high ceilings and British cottage style wood fixtures and detailing. Red light flooded the place (which I had mixed emotions over because red light makes everyone look really nice but is sort of odd in the “we are being warmed under here” way).
The regulars were there as I had known they would be. The were very casual and comfortable punkish type people in their 30’s. We sat in a tiny booth that really didn’t fit three grown men and one grown woman as our party was comprised of but it wasn’t too big a deal in my mind.
Drinks were WEHO prices which is terrible. I had a rum and coke, and irish car bomb and a jack on the rocks. All were pleasantly prepared but as I mentioned pricey.
One benefit is that last call was at 1:30AM or so and they weren’t too pushy about it as I remember. So overall, I would probably stop by for a drink based on the fact that it is very very near to my home but I wouldn’t say “it’s like the new Gold Room” or anything so over the top and ridiculous as that. Really no one would say that.
