15 Restaurant in Echo Park: Ertel’s Opinion
1320 N Echo Park Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90026
Ok well, this is kind of a gentrified addition to the sprawling sorted neighborhood that is Echo Park. It sits directly across from the original Pioneer Chicken and right next to one of the locally owned and run liquor stores. The inside is a very modern decor in a minimalist type of vain. Apparently, from 5PM - 7PM they have a menu in which you get a lot of things for only $15. We did not arrive in time for this. Its like a three course meal of something.
So the situation is as follows: We get there. We choose our own seats, high backed modern black leather chairs. Crispy melba toastish situation with olive tapenade is the complimentary “bread”. Enjoyable I have to say. Oh I should also mention that this is where I broke my fast for Yom Kippur so I was kind of starving.
We ordered the calamari which came with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce. I think I much prefer the classic marinara but it was not bad. Not really bad at all. The calmari’s batter had some corn meal in it and I like that sort of grit.
We all ordered the Angus burger with bleu cheese, grilled onions and maybe something else. The patty was very small but tasty. The fries had rosemary and salt on them and that I like.
Then this. No espresso. So, another point down. I mean look. I really thought the service was pretty good. However there were like 2 other people in the joint. I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. But in layman’s terms not fancy enough to be considered fancy, not casual enough. The prices were actually OK though. I have heard that the chocolate croissant bread pudding is a rock-n-roller. I love bread pudding but didn’t get any.
I’ll be back when there’s liquor and for the $15 extravaganza and not before.
