LAST NIGHT’S LOVE:
Phillip Baker Hall does everything right as the character of Sydney. A complex, kind and dangerous fellow who reels us in with charisma in it’s truest form. P.T.A is no doubt a legend. Both written and directed by with no cause for concern, the film unfolds delicately going from humourous to severe. That, in itself, a feat of the highest degree. Performances by Baker Hall, John C. Riley and Gwyneth Paltrow all very strong.
Sydney: [at the cocktail lounge] Tell me something. Are you required to flirt, to behave as you do toward that table of men over there? Maybe… it’s some part of your job?
Clementine: Uh, they don’t say to do it.
Sydney: But if you don’t?
Clementine: Well, then I get questioned, like: “Why were so rude to them?”, and, I mean, I can’t talk back. I can’t tell them to fuck off and leave me alone.
Sydney: As a rule?
Clementine: I’d also lose the tip.
