ATTN: EL CHAVO HAS HAD A FACELIFT

Last night after taking in some consumerist sights we thought we’d go over to El Chavo Mexican Restaurant and get a Senior or something. When we first pulled in it came to my attention that something was a little different. The patio was being re-modeled and I thought right off, “hey that’s good”. Not that the former patio was that bad but yeah it could use a little update. I should not that last time we went to El Chavo we paid with credit cards (because, because there are new owners and they are cool with that). So down the staircase that lead to a mirror with two doors on each side, we’ve always gone left. NOW, we go right. The entire restaurant on the left hand side is being revamped. Apparently, the right side has always been the “historic” dining room of El Chavo. Inside a very conservatively dressed man tells us the wait is 5min. We oblige him by waiting. He shows us to the bar. This dining room is temporary and is much smaller but as it was Sunday night it was not too busy there. We get some margaritas and hang low for a bit.  We then sit down and chat til our waiter comes about four seconds later. The service is TOTALLY different. LA restaurant service is always a total bust but when the place is small (usually) its way better. Lots of refills and attention is what I desire especially at places where they serve chips and stuff. I wasn’t too hungry for beefs cause I had eaten the steak and eggs at square one earlier in the day. I got the green corn tamales and they were PRETTY indulgent. Served with rice and beans but I really didn’t need them. One mush is enough mush, but I still loved it. I mixed in some salsa and sour cream and enjoyed myself. Also, I have to say. El Chavo gives you A LOT for the price! We got two entrées (which come with soup) and two margaritas and we spent $37.00. Que rico, when you’re not too rico (beasts!).
